GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The AVID Teacher at Western School of Science and Technology is responsible for delivering high-quality, standards-based instruction that supports the school's mission of preparing every student for success in post-secondary education and future careers. The AVID Teacher creates inclusive and engaging learning environments, builds strong relationships with students and families, and collaborates with colleagues to support the academic and personal growth of all students.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, develop, and execute lesson plans.
- Adapt teaching for individual students, small groups, and remedial instruction to meet the needs of identified students or subgroups of students.
- Evaluate the academic and social growth of students.
- Evaluate student progress and the ability to meet course standards.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior.
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service training and education activities provided by WSST and/or in self-selected professional development opportunities.
- Fulfill a student supervision duty during the day to maintain overall safety.
- Collaborates with colleagues, parents, the community, and other agencies to foster student learning.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Bachelor's Degree ( required).
- AVID teaching experience ( preferred).
- Establish and maintain productive, collaborative relationships with students, colleagues, and families.
- Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical conduct.
- Plan, organize, and complete work while meeting schedules and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Analyze assessment data to inform and improve instruction.
- Apply best practices in curriculum, instruction, and student learning.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment for students from diverse backgrounds.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including preparing and delivering presentations.
- Read, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Use computers and standard office software to complete job responsibilities.
- Maintain effective interpersonal skills, including tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Maintain consistent, punctual, and regular attendance
BACKGROUND CHECKS:
- The incumbent in this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
- Must be able to obtain and hold IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card at all times.
Physical Demands:
- Hear and speak to make presentations and exchange information in person and on the telephone.
- Communicate so others will be able to understand conversation.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and manipulate paper.
- See to read, prepare documents and reports, and to observe students.
- Able to return to a task after interruption.
- Sit or stand for extended periods of time, in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Stamina to work a full day and then supervise evening events or attend meetings.
- Work at a desk, conference table, small student classroom table, or in meetings in various configurations.
- Hear and understand speech at normal levels.
- Kneel, bend at the waist, and reach overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects.
- Move throughout campus including climbing, stairs or use elevator and hallways, indoors and outdoors
Terms of Employment:
- Eleven -month employee pay and benefits in accordance with Board policy.
- FLSA: Non-Exempt.
- Full-Time Employee Benefits: in accordance with Board policy.
